Franklin County

Opioid Education and Prevention Coordinator

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Experience in the field of human services

  • Experience in substance use programs or services

  • Ability to work outside of normal business hours to attend school events and meetings

  • Good communication skills, written and verbally

Candidates should have a basic knowledge of:

  • local child-serving systems

  • SUD, substance use prevention

  • child and adolescent mental health

  • procedures for accessing local resources for students and families

  • the school culture and SAP-related school policies and procedures for all Franklin County Schools

  • student assistance program policies and procedures (training provided)

  • crisis intervention

Candidates should have skills in:

  • working with parents, students and school personnel

  • serving as advocates for parents/caregivers and students in the healthcare system

  • accessing local resources

  • consulting with school and community child-serving professionals

  • research on a variety of public health issues including SUD, prevention, health equity, mental health and youth behavior trends.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Regularly attend school board meetings for all five Franklin County School districts to advocate for the needs of schools

  • Attend community and school events to distribute information and materials

  • Participate in school SAP meetings, as available

  • Provide Operation Save a Life trainings to all school staff, including installment and use of Narkits in all schools (public and private) 

  • Meet with school admin to identify needs and complete “school walk-throughs” to identify areas of needs for education and information

  • Provide feedback on the district website to ensure the most effective/beneficial information is shared with parents/caregivers, encourage parent and student involvement, including online platforms, relevant materials, and campaigns that would benefit parents and caregivers.

 

  • Navigate community resources to meet social determinants of health needs identified by school, staff, families, individuals, and communities.

  • Improve greater access to mental health services and support for young people, including services and supports provided by school nurses, behavioral health workers, or other school staff, to address mental health needs in young people that (when not properly addressed) increase the risk of opioid or other drug misuse (From Johns Hopkins)

  • Coordination and implementation of presentations on requested topics (ex. Harms of substance use, people in recovery, etc.) and collect pre/post data on the effectiveness of these presentations from participants.

  • Collect data such as satisfaction surveys, and basic demographics of students, parents and community members as appropriate and available.

  • Meet monthly with SCA staff and HCP Director to discuss current programming and receive feedback on processes, programs, campaigns, etc.

Freedom From Smoking Facilitator

Adult to instruct community members on quitting use of nicotine and vape products using the American Lung Association's Freedom From Smoking Curriculum which is an 8 week program. Programs are held locally  and are usually in the evening. 

The position is contracted, hourly. 

Training provided on FFS program and support available

Also involves contacting participants prior to class and follow up.

Light paperwork- preferable completed online

Other supplies needed for the class are provided

Must be at least 6 months tobacco free to apply

Volunteer Opportunities
